For many people, getting their finances on track is high on the priority list. But how do you know which financial adviser is right for you?
This is a good question, and one we know is important to many. So here are four things we think you need to consider before signing the dotted line with a financial adviser.
- Understand what you are looking for and what you are hoping to achieve. Are you close to retirement? Are you in the early years of your career? It’s important to look for an adviser who specialises in the stage of life you are currently in. You wouldn’t see a heart specialist for brain surgery; the same applies in the field of financial advice.
- Look for someone you can trust. How transparent are they? Is it easy to understand their fees? Trust is important, and it goes both ways.
- Seek an adviser who has the right technical skills to do their job right. This goes hand-in-hand with the first point – the adviser should be an expert in the technology they use.
- Work with someone you like. At the end of the day we are all humans, and not everyone gets along. You’ll look forward to your meetings a lot more if you’re seeing someone you actually like.
