Financial planning without financial doing

We’ve said this before, and we’ll say it again: financial planning without financial doing is pointless.

It would be like going to see your doctor, then not returning to pick up your test results. Or not attending the specialist appointment they refer you to (we won’t mention any names, Michael…). Going to see a financial adviser but not actually taking the steps that are required to put the plan into action is the same thing.

This happens more often than you think. It’s not that people don’t have the motivation or can’t be bothered to make the time – it’s just that life gets in the way sometimes.

Here at Lighthouse, we actually help you to take action, not just give you a plan and let you walk away.

Dallas and Michael do the financial planning with the client and then hand over to Kylie. And Kylie gets things done. Her title used to be ‘Client Services Manager’, but it wasn’t long before she was renamed the ‘Director of Financial Doing.’

What exactly does a Director of Financial Doing do? Kylie is the person who sits down with our clients to help them do paperwork or sign up for things online, for example she might help them to register for a MyGov account or apply for the Aged Care Pension. Of course, clients have different needs – and Kylie helps them with whatever those needs are.

Often during our meetings, clients will ask ‘but will you do that? I don’t know how.’ We don’t just give you ideas and a plan – we help you to physically do them. Kylie is great with those finer details, and we want to make sure that we always take that extra step for our clients.

So, what happens when we can’t action something for you? For example, we might not be able to contact your superannuation and make changes in your name. What we would do in that instance is help you make the phone call or write the email for you and show you where to send it.

Why is this a good thing? Because us helping you with these final steps means that you can go on with your life, or your work, without having to worry about your finances. That’s our job. Now if only someone could go to that dental appointment for you...

And for any of our clients or readers who are worried about Michael – don’t worry – he made sure to visit the skin specialist.
